September - dotOS v5.2 Remarkable Release

DotOS 5.2 : Biggest update ever! 🎉

After many teasers we released on Twitter. Today, we are excited to unveil DotOS 5.2 the latest release focuses on User Interface, System Stability, new system-wide theming, Gaming Mode, Battery Manager and much more. We are very pleased to announce a new additions to our DotOS Team. Anil Kumar (Akinhd) and Pandromeda(GDPandro). Both of them will work on Graphics Front. We warmly welcome them to our Team.

Design and Ecosystem: 🎨

As we continued bringing Unique experiences, we did lots of work on System-wide theming. we have upgraded Monetwanna to 2.1 with numerous Improvements and fixes We believe these enhancements will bring delightful experiences for our end users.

  • The MonetWannabe 2.2

We made a brand-new wallpaper-based system engine, something like Google’s Monet Engine - so we called it MonetWannabe. Prior to this release we implemented only the accent color generation, but we planned on a complete system palette dynamic generation, with a possibility to support Live Wallpapers. Now, with 5.2 we moved to a more competent color generation engine, the one made by kdrag0n(The Creator of ProtonAOSP) and Android 12 Extension Module. We took it's latest engine update (the one with zcam based color generation) and integrated it inside MonetCompat. With the help of MonetCompat and MonetWannabe hook we managed to bring a true Monet-like experience.🙌

  • The new Settings dashboard Interface 🌟

We have redesigned it again. Now it’s more clear and optimised for MonetWannabe themeing.

  • Gaming Mode 🎮

Yes we are bringing Gaming Mode in 5.2 release, which has capability to auto detect games and disables some functionality which disturbes for Gamers.

  • The Battery Manager 🔋

Starting with 5.2 release, we have added Battery Manager based on Buoy which includes several Battery profiles , can be enabled based on your requirement and which optimises your device to last longer.

Security and Privacy: 🔐

With this release, We have taken some measures in Improving our Device maintainer’s policies in enhance security and protect safetynet. People want an OS that they can trust with their most personal and sensitive information. So we have added some security features to block permissions.

Website: 🌐

Along with the 5.2 release, we have rewritten whole Website with react framework to Improve performance and Stability. we have made Website source code public, if someone want to contribute, feel free to make pull requests. Source Code - https://github.com/DotOS/website_backend

New Clock widgets: 🕠🕐

We gave new life to some wonderful clock widgets who uses extensively. these are look like Android 12 clock widgets, hope you'll have fun.

Jenkins and Build System: 🤖

Starting with the 5.1 release, we have did all the setup to provide regular OTA updates, so that will continue without any issues.

  • Rebased theme engine to latest kdrag0n's ZCAM implementation (Way better color generation)

  • Added independent Palette of colors for both homescreen and lockscreen wallpapers
  • Added support for global Monet support (Customizations, Settings, SystemUI, core elements etc)
  • Moved color generation to SystemUI thread
Revamped Customizations app
  • Almost completely redesigned to ensure a better UX
  • Implemented Wallpaper Scheduling
  • Added Monet support (some apps which supports Android12 themeing)
Gaming Mode
  • Added 'Game Dashboard'
  • Implemented Gaming Mode but with a better UI and UX
  • Implemented an early version of 'Quick Control' a floating pill with handy controls while you're gaming
Battery Manager
  • Initially based on Buoy - a battery saver profile customization app
  • Moved here everything that's battery related
  • Added Battery Saver Profiles
  • Added Battery Saver Profile customization
  • Added Smart Charge
  • Added Smart Cut-off

Misc

  • updated translations from crowdin
  • UI/UX improvements
  • Stability and underhood improvements
